In this workshop you will learn about one of the most fascinating of natural dyes, Indigo. This stunning blue dye is derived from the leaves of the indigofera tinctora plant. Participants will prepare a silk scarf using some shibori techniques, ( tying, sewing, and folding the cloth) as well as wax application to create a resist. When the scarf is dipped into the large vat, watch the dye change colour from green to blue as it oxidizes in the air. Please note I am purist at heart and use only natural indigo, this is the real deal, not a prefabricated chemical kit. The vat is prepared a few days in advance to specific ph and temperature levels and with a lifetime of knowledge and love, It is a fabulous process that keeps me on my toes/ I look forward to sharing this beautiful blue dye process with you.
